Watch the Bears

Explore.org is the world’s largest live nature network with a mission of connecting people back to nature and championing the selfless acts of others. From late spring until early October explore.org partners with Katmai National Park to create a portal into the vast and pristine beauty of Brooks Falls, Alaska and the dynamic ecosystems that exist there. Most notably, it is a critical habitat for brown bears and salmon and a place for viewers around the world to watch through several explore.org camera lenses as the bears’ days unfold, unaltered.

Brown Bears are creatures of habit and food-driven because of their need to gain weight during the summer. Once they find a successful fishing spot they tend to come back to that same location every year. Brooks Falls is undoubtedly one of the best places in the world to watch brown bears because it’s one of the first streams in the region where salmon are readily available to bears coming out of hibernation. The falls create a temporary barrier to migrating salmon and viewers can watch as bears fish and catch salmon with little effort.

Along with the Brooks Falls cameras, check out the lower river cameras that are the favorite spot of mother bears and cubs as they eat, play, and learn
to hunt.
