If you were a brown bear in the summer, you’d be __________.
Primarily eating. Bears need to eat to survive the long winter when food is hard to find. Bears eat almost everything – they are omnivores. Bear diets include plants, grasses, herbs, berries, fish, shellfish and other mammals. Bears are smart animals and they develop distinct fishing skills and techniques that set individuals apart. Bears are also curious and will explore and even play. In order to protect both bear and human safety, never feed a bear! And always remember to store food safely and practice the latest bear safety recommendations when entering bear country.
If you were a brown bear in the winter, you’d be __________.
Likely hibernating in your den. During winter, when food sources are scarce, brown bears enter a deep sleep called hibernation. Their heart and breathing rate slows down. They survive off the stores of fat they built up over the summer and fall. If you were a bear cub, you’d be born during the winter months.
If you were a bear in the woods, what would you see?
Look up – How tall are the trees? What color is the sky? Are there birds flying? Are there insects buzzing?
Look ahead – Are there shrubs or bushes? Can you feel their leaves? Can you spot any animals?
Look down – Are there plants or flowers? How does the ground feel? Is it rocky / grassy / muddy? Are there insects crawling?
Always remember to respect wildlife and never approach a wild animal, even if they look friendly.
Stay on marked trails, and dispose of any trash properly.
